Dr. Saju PP

Chairperson

Dr.Saju is a Social Scientist and has coordinated a number of research studies on socially relevant issues under the auspices of International agencies, Central / State Ministries and agencies. He was also part of the design, development and implementation of a number of developmental projects. He has authored several books and has been a visiting faculty to Schools of Social Work on Research Methodology, Project Planning and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) used for Data Analysis.

Rita Panicker Pinto

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Ms. Rita Panicker Pinto is the Founder Director of Butterflies. She has been a faculty member in the Women’s Studies Unit, at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and was also the Founder Member of MASHAL – Maharashtra Association for Social Housing. In 1990, Rita was appointed Consultant to UNICEF New York and Nigeria to assist UNICEF Nigeria office to formulate a national policy and programme for Children Especially in Difficult Circumstances (CEDC). Today this whole area is known as Child Protection. From 1988-1992, Rita also served as the Director of the Board of ChildHope International, an international organization working on issues of street and working children. Rita was elected to the Ashoka Fellowship in 1993 and has authored several books on children’s issues. She was also the Vice Chair of the Board of Family for Every Child, a global alliance of local civil society organisations working together to improve the lives of vulnerable children around the world.

Manojit Sen

MEMBER

Manojit is currently Head of Learning for Shell’s Supply & Distribution, Strategy & Portfolio and Alternative Energies businesses and is based in Singapore. Prior to this Manojit has been the Global HR Manager for Marine and the Global Talent Manager for Shell’s B2B businesses in Downstream. He has worked in regional and local HR roles in Shell, Coca-Cola and Marico. He advises Butterflies on organisational development and has helped in fund raising and building new partnerships. Manojit Sen is a Management Graduate from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. Manojit is a sensitive person who is deeply concerned about children and their rights.

Dr. Kalpana Sarathy

MEMBER

Prof Kalpana Sarathy is currently Deputy Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati, Assam. Her work & interest areas lie in the areas of Health and Mental Health, Gender and Sexuality, Disability, Social Work across Life Span and Research through Qualitative and Participatory Research Methods. She is committed to the cause of children and their rights and strongly believes in children’s participation.

Ashok B Lall

MEMBER

Ashok B Lall is Principal of Ashok B Lall Architects in New Delhi, India. He is also Visiting Professor at the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) in New Delhi, and Chair for Design & Technology at the Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture (KRVIA) in Mumbai, India. He was Dean of the TVB School of Habitat Studies until its merger with GGSIPU in 2007. The firm Ashok B Lall Architects was established in New Delhi (1981-), and is committed to an architectural practice based on the principles of environmental sustainability and social responsibility. The practice has executed projects for educational research institutions in many parts of India, and specializes in low-energy sustainable architecture. Recent projects in India include the Butterflies Resilience Centre, Delhi, Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur; Sehgal Foundation, Gurgaon and Development Alternatives World Headquarters, New Delhi. He is engaged in several initiatives for the improvement of public spaces in cities and affordable housing. Ashok B Lall studied architecture and fine arts at the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom and also studied at the Architectural Association (AA), London, where he obtained his diploma (1970).

Sujata Khanna

MEMBER

Sujata is a social documentary photographer based in New Delhi, India. She takes deep interest in children’s and women’s issues, human rights and the environment. Sujata loves being part of an era where it’s possible to create images digitally and print them using historical processes in the darkroom. Sujata has worked for several humanitarian organizations like Family for Every Child, Railway Children UK and CARE India. Prior to immersing herself in photography, she worked for eight years in India and other international locations for organizations including the British Red Cross and Save the Children UK. Her work for these non-profits focused on children’s rights issues and child protection. Sujata has lived and travelled extensively in India, UK and USA.

CA Martin Pinto

MEMBER

Mr. Martin Pinto a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India has been working with International development agencies & NGOs for the past thirty four years. Besides conducting audits he has developed modules and conducted various training programmes for NGO’s and NGO Auditors. He has been a consultant to UNFPA for conducting financial appraisals of Regional Resource Centre Applicants to The Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family welfare and was the financial expert to facilitate finalization of a Training Manual – Training of Trainers for Regional Resource Centre’s and MNGOs. He has also been the financial expert for various International reviews of bilateral programmes with the Government of Norway and the Government of India. He also provides consultancy to International Organizations for the establishment of their operations in India. He has written a Manual for Financial Management of NGOs which has been published by The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation NORAD and translated into Hindi & Oriya. He also author of a book “ Frequently Asked Questions – By NGOs” published by The Royal Norwegian Embassy, New Delhi; Co-author – Training of Trainers – Manual for MNGOs and Team member in preparation of Accounting Guide for Non-Profits for The Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium, Philippines. Chairman Finance Advisory Committee, CARITAS INDIA Auditor of CBCI; Chetanalaya; CBCI-CARD; AFPRO; All Indian Association for Christian Higher education; Delhi Catholic Archdiocese; and a number of Religious Congregations & NGOs across India.

JB Oli

HEAD- PROGRAMMES

J. B. Oli has over 20 years of experience in programme implementation and policy advocacy for children in India; having worked in non-government and government organisations in different roles and responsibilities.

Prior to joining Butterflies, he worked as a Senior Technical Expert in National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Government of India. He also worked with Childline India Foundation leading their advocacy and training. After completing his Masters in Social Work he began his career in a national alliance of organisations, academicians, practitioners and individuals working for children with an aim to promote, protect and advocate for children’s rights in the country.

His forte is child protection, programme management and monitoring and evaluation.

An avid reader, Oli has also worked on laws legislations and policies on children, international human rights laws and is often credited for his team building skills.

Sujay Joseph

HEAD- COMMUNICATIONS

Sujay has over twelve years of experience in communication for development. At Butterflies he is in charge of Communications, Fundraising and Volunteer Management. Prior to this, he was working in Communicators India, a communications consultancy firm, developing media advocacy and communication programs on socio-development issues for development sector organizations (ranging from public health to human rights to environment). He has completed his Bachelors in Commerce from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, Masters in Commerce and Masters in Marketing Communications from JK Business School, Gurgaon. He has also completed his studies in Journalism for Social Change from University of California, Berkeley & Edx, Inclusive Communication for Development from Agora & UNICEF, SBC Communication from New Concept Information Systems & UNICEF, Accessible ICT from Georgia Tech & Edx and Health Communication from John Hopkins Center for Communication Programs. Sujay believes in inclusive and accessible communication and at Butterflies develops communication for development solutions ranging from accessible IEC materials to targeted media advocacy & communication programs. Sujay is an avid reader, loves music and travel.

Chandan Chaman

HEAD- CHILDREN'S COOPERATIVES

Chandan has more than six years of experience in Social Sector. He competed his M.Phil. in Social Work and Master’s in Social Work from University of Delhi. He has also been awarded University Grants Commission –Junior Research Fellow (UGC-JRF) in 2013. He has published three academic papers related to women and children and Social Work Education. He has also produced several documents like process documentation and reader for teachers on basic communication and counseling skills. He has been a peer reviewer on a Sage Journal for two years. He has completed a research project on impact of sports on children in 2016, conducted a desk review and key informant interviews on opportunities and challenges in family-based care in India in 2019. His work in Tihar Prisons (Delhi) for the personality development of inmates has been hugely successful. He worked as a Social Specialist on World Bank funded Project of NW-1 and has worked for a year in ASDA as a Counsellor and Life skills trainer, which is a wing of Matrix Clothing. At Butterflies, Chandan is heading the Children’s Cooperatives programme, and has also been a key member of Mapping & Reviewing of Childcare Institutions (CCIs) in Delhi organized in association with the Government of India.

Satyavir Singh

HEAD- STREET EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Satyavir is associated with Butterflies since last 28 years. He started working with street connected & working children as a 19-year-old college student volunteer in a pilot project for community development run by Butterflies. Later on he completed his graduation & post-graduation in social sciences. Presently he is heading the street education programme at Butterflies ensuring children’s participation, child protection & safeguarding and community empowerment and development in our programmes.
